Property Prices revealed by Land Registry

The Land Registry has announced that they will be releasing the latest monthly residential property price data every month.  From March 2012 they will be making the information for all of the residential property sales in England and Wales publically available.  This is great news for property investors who will have real sold price data readily available when investigating an area for investment.

The data includes:

  • the full address of the property (Primary addressable object name (PAON), Secondary addressable object name (SAON), street, postcode, locality (if available), town, district, county)
  • the price paid for the property
  • the date of transfer
  • the property type (Detached, Semi, Terraced, Flat/Maisonette)
  • whether the property is new build or not
  • whether the property is freehold or leasehold.

The price paid data has been collected from a variety of sources as part of the land registration process. (NB. The data published is available for use and re-use under the Open Government Licence (OGL). Because this is the first time the Land Registry have released the data without licensing restrictions and in open reusable format, they will review the use of the OGL after three months. The review could result in introducing restrictions on the use of price paid data. )
